Social class blog

I this article there are many points being made about how people of different social classes might go through college. And the classes i'm talking about are not college classes but social economic classes that show where you are in America based on the amount of money you or your parents have. And this social class may determine how a college student will leave college. If a student that has everything they can possibly need(money, parents with high social class) and without worrying about the future they will be able to pass with flying colors because they have no worry. But a student that is lower or working class student will have a tougher time not just because money but how this will affect them in the long run taking out loans and whatever else money comes with college.

These pathways in the article that the author talks about are very relevant in universities today and are like roads for certain cars. These are roads  for certain students and how college will turn out for them. The three things are the party pathway, the mobility pathway and the professional pathway. So the party pathway is for students that are social. They are not all into books they can talk and may not have a set goal in college. “Extremely affluent students with middling academic credentials are ideal candidates.”(Armstrong) This type of student is classified as an upper class or middle class student. The experience the student might have is called socialite or a wannabe. This means that all they want to do is talk  not do anything about it. It's like someone who hangs out with people who are very smart not to improve themselves but to make themselves look good. The Party pathway is obviously primed to party and is the party animal that looks to have a good time.

Next is the mobility pathway. This is classified as a person who is a lower middle class person. This how people view the “American Dream” as. Its starts as the student growing up striving going to college  to strive and have a successful future. This also gives people the assumption after seeing students like this make it that any is possible as long as you put in the work that is needed to succeed. Theses students again are seen as strivers because they want to help their families situations and be the cure to these problems.

Now finally we have the professional pathway. These are the students that had everything they needed and wanted as a child. Theses are main students we are in competition with for college enrollments. These are students that had parents with money they can have things like private tutors and coaches. Their parents have strong connections with the college because they either graduated from their or they give large sums of money. This is all possible because they are the upper class and they are hard workers. They are privileged enough to be able to be at the top of the class or be accepted to any school because of the money that their parents have. They are seen as achievers because they are so privileged growing with the best. But these  privileges can easily turned around. The person that has a professional pathway can end up in the party pathway if they don't take advantage of those things they have.

So clas plays a huge role but it is not the answer to success all the time. Even though colleges put us in these pathways
