Color of Fear Post

Although, the film is more than 10 years old, there is still some relation to our everyday life now. The ideas that were presented in the film are still ideas that we all think now. No matter how much we try to run away from the fact, that racism is still a big issue in our society, we will still be reminded that it is not over. The film presented many good arguments for both sides. The things that happen to us are not all because of the whites. We also put ourselves in situations where it makes it hard for us to be equal. The scene that really stood out to me was when David was posed with the question from Lee on why the girls did not work harder to get those extra points. His response to it was that his feelings were minimized. I agreed with the fact that his feelings were minimized and that everyone should be given some type of grace. It is really difficult to understand something if you are not put in that situation. David was never put in that situation in which he was the one being put down. As a result, he felt how all the other minorities felt when being oppressed and realized that there are some things that could be changed. I feel as if I connect with Loren the most because there was a point where he thought that progress was being made but in the end he saw that we are still at the starting point. Many times people all think including myself that there is a big change in racism and that it is diminishing but the truth is that the only thing happening is that racism is taking more subtle forms and as a result we do not notice. One of the big issues in the film is coming to the realization that there is someone at fault for all this oppression and no one is ready to take the blame. Many times people kept trying to tell David that the Whites are on top and that they are the one that is privileged, but he seems to take it in another way because he believes that the Whites are just another one of the colored people. Some of the viewpoints on the term American is that being American now means that you have to follow by the White rule and that you cannot defy it. My definition of American before entering the course was someone who was born in America or someone that is a citizen of America. My definition has not changed because being American is being American, it is just how people see it that is different. I would identify myself as an African-American. I choose to identify myself as that because that is what I feel that I am, and that is what people will commonly refer to me as. A lot of emotion was presented in the film and to me the emotion comes from how much frustration has built between each of the colors. No one wants to hear others excuses. All the person wants to hear is a resolution to the issue. This emotion can really bring the true identity of one because finally they are free and then anything that wants to be said can come out. This emotion can also hurt because it can put our feelings in front of logic and the facts. As mentioned earlier there are things that the colored have also done to add to this issue. Overall, the film was nice to watch and I learned lots of useful info from there.
