Color of Fear Reflection

Before I get into detail about the questions on the paper I'd like to say that I thought this would be just like any other documentary adressing issues between Black people and White people, it was totally different from what I was expecting. Furthermore, it made me ask myself what is the meaning the word "Rasicst" or the act of being racist/prejudiced towards people. This relates to how David Christensen felt at the end of the film when he is now starting to feel how people of color are being grouped by what the rest of their respective people do, rather than it being based on what they do themselves. The person I feel most connected with Victor Lewis because when he was getting emotional in the beginning when he said he can't do what David can do because of he looks, talks, acts, and feels. I had similar instances where it was because of the way I looked that I was being followed in a convenience store, it made me question is it me because of who I am? This also reminds me of reading a chapter that I was responsible for for class discussion which was the chapter named called "The Arab Woman and I" where American society optimizes people for their culture. It speaks of how Mona Fayad shows the distinction that if she were "veiled" they would recognize that she was Arab but if she isn't no one would even notice. Similar to what Loren Moye said, which I find to be a big issue, is that if you're black and work in corporate America you scare people, or how if you walk down with pride and show that you show that you have intelligence you scare people. We see emotions like this through the entire film and I believe that this comes from years of experience dealing with prejudice and having to deal with the fact that someone like him doesn't have the same privilege as the other person. In conclusion this film has taught me several things such as that if we need to stop racism we need to be willing stop all signs of it and that in spite of being judged by color try to a better person for the sake of yourself and society.
